Harvest
These colours! As we move closer and closer to the time of year where colour and warmth are lacking, let’s look at these and be happy. No more words, just brightness.

Peach Blueberry Crisp
Apple crisp is one of the desserts my sister Verulam used to make often at my parents’ house, way back when we all lived on the same continent. Apple desserts were my brother’s favourite. I loved it for the crispy oat and brown sugar topping, the vanilla ice cream melting in little pools around it.

Orange Cornmeal Cake With Coronation Grape Sauce
I am taking it one day at a time. I trudge to work in the dim morning light and return in the dark. I cannot think too far ahead otherwise the amount of work that is yet to be done will overwhelm me. I wish there were more hours in the day, more days in the weekend.

Fig-ures
Lately I’ve been loving anything to do with figs. My Pinterest boards are full of them. To me they are just the essence of fall fruit. Dark and sombre, reminding us that winter is coming, but at the same time purple and juicy, reminiscent of summer berries.
Figs as cake decorations, figs in salads, figs as party styling, and figs in other baked goods. Nothing is too tough for the fig to handle.
Figs in everything. It figures.

Fig arugula salad from Love and Lemons. Autumn bourbon sangria from The Life Styled (I cheated there are no figs in here, but I think they would be awesome). Naked red velvet wedding cake from The Polka Dot Bride. Botanical wedding inspiration from Style Me Pretty. Wine grape and fig ciambellone from Hortus.
